The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Rice cornerback Phillip Gaines in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, and it has brought up some rumors from earlier in the week. Earlier to a report earlier this week from Dan Pompei of Bleacher Report, the Chiefs were interested in trading cornerback Brandon Flowers for additional draft picks.

Flowers was a Pro Bowl corner last year despite not playing that well and Pro Football Focus graded Flowers out as a bottom-15 cover corner. He also has three years left on a mammoth six-year, $49.35 million deal.

Kansas City Star’s Terez Paylor is speculating that the Chiefs will once again try to trade Flowers having drafted Gaines on Friday night. Though with that contract it could be highly unlikely that Flowers gets moved.
