Collin Cowgill hits walk-off HR for Angles in bottom of 14th

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Collin Cowgill was the hero of Tuesday night as he hit a solo home run to left field with two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning off of veteran left hander Jeff Francis to give the Angels a 2-1 victory.

The Angels scored their run after an error by Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson on a throw to second base put runners on second and third with nobody out in the sixth.  Josh Hamilton singled in Mike Trout after the error.

The Athletics tied the game in the top of the eighth when Jed Lowrie scored Nick Punto on a sacrifice fly.

Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes saved the game in the bottom of the eighth when he threw a perfect 340 foot strike to home plate to mow down Howie Kendrick.  Cespedes let the ball get away from him into the corner before his cannon shot to home plate.  The game remained tied at one until the bottom of the 14th.

Collin Cowgill finished the night 3-6.  He had a single in the third and a double in the 12th before his walk off home run.  The homer was the fifth of the season for Cowgill.  He is now hitting .289 with 15 RBI as well.

The Angels are now a season-best eight games over .500.  They will send Jered Weaver to the mound tomorrow as they go for the sweep of Oakland.  The A’s will counter with young left hander Tommy Milone.

The win moves the Angels within 2.5 games of the west division leading A’s
