While the day and age of information being shared through mobile technology is at an all-time high, the unfortunate downfall is that breaches are always going to be a possibility.  Most recently, applications Evernote and Feedly have been the victims of a cyberattack.

Evernote is well-known as a popular note-taking app while Feedly is an RSS reader.  Both applications, that actually work in tandem with one another, have been recent victims of a cyberattack.  The cyberattack comes in the form of a DDoS (distributed denial of service).  The purpose of such attacks is to take the applications of line and interrupt service, not steal data.

Feedly is currently still down and the attackers are holding the site for ransom.  It is unknown whether or not Evernote was also held ransom.

In a blog post Feedly mentioned:

"“The attacker is trying to extort us money to make it stop.  We refused to give in and are working with our network providers to mitigate the attack as best as we can.”"

Feedly did mention that all user data is safe, which further corroborates that the attack is of the DDoS type.  Evernote took to Twitter to post updates of its own.

Evernote has since made users aware that functionality should have been restored, but that there could be some hiccups as the service gets back up and running.  Evernote was a victim of a data breach last year that saw hackers obtain passwords and user information.

Hackers have been active at an alarming rate, and it’s the consumer who loses out.  Make sure to stay on top of your accounts and monitor them daily in order to stay away from any sort of suspicious activity.
