The Los Angeles Kings have returned the Stanley Cup to California and they’ll enjoy this summer of celebration before embarking on a tour to defend their title and reclaim Lord Stanley’s Cup as their own. The early odds are in on who will be their greatest challengers and it appears that Vegas isn’t favoring the Stanley Cup champions to even make it back to the Finals next year.

  • According Vegas Insider, the Boston Bruins are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup next year with the Chicago Blackhawks the favorites to emerge from the Western Conference as challengers.  If we’re to take the odds in a literal sense, then the Kings will at least make it back to the Western Conference Finals but won’t make it any further.

Two teams who have risen on the odds chart from where they were last year are the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche. Colorado owned the No.1 pick in the draft but kick off the summer with 16-to-1 odds. The Wild similarly were in a low place last year but are looking at being the sixth seed in the postseason if the odds are read literally.
