Former Oklahoma State Cowboys’ point guard Marcus Smart could have been one of the top two or three picks in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Smart, of course, decided to return to school for his sophomore season. He improved upon his game during his second season with the Cowboys, but because the 2014 NBA Draft is stronger at the top and has more depth across the board, Smart will likely wind up going lower than he would have a year ago.

The Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have all showed great interest in Smart. The Utah Jazz have as well, but Smart has not reciprocated.

According to Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune, Jazz Vice President of Player Personnel Walt Perrin has tried to schedule a workout with Smart’s agent four times, but no workout has taken place.

If Jazz doesn’t go to the Magic at four, he may be making a play to be drafted by the Celtics or Lakers, who own the sixth-overall and seventh-overall picks, but that is just speculation.

Smart is ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the draft by Jonathan Givony of Draft Express. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game last season and shot 42.2% from the field, 29.9% from beyond the arc and 72.8% from the charity stripe. Smart measured in at 6’3.25 and 227 lbs. with a wingspan of 6’9.25.
