The Los Angeles Lakers are starting to shake things up in the offseason and while they haven’t made any official moves, they are trying to set themselves up in a position to do so. We heard about the Lakers involved in the Kevin Love trade rumors as a third party, but their involvement may be a bit deeper than we thought.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

According to Gery Woefel of the Racine Journal Times, the Lakers appear to be not only entering the race to land Kevin Love, they could be moving into the lead to land the Minnesota Timberwolves star.

"Two NBA executives, when asked where they thought Minnesota star forward Kevin Love would end up, said the Los Angeles Lakers — even though Golden State appears to be the front-runners for his services."

This is a bit of an interesting notion as last we heard the Lakers were just helpers in this deal and not direct benefactors in it. While they were rumored to be after Klay Thompson, Los Angeles has ditched that and are seemingly going for the entire cake rather than just getting a small piece of it.

It’s hard to say how much of this is smoke and mirrors, but the Lakers have long been mentioned as a potentially perfect landing spot for Love and we could see them get in on the sweepstakes hard as we enter the 11th hour.
