The Dallas Mavericks made a big move to sign Houston Rockets restricted free agent Chandler Parsons. The move required superstar Dirk Nowtizki to even less of a pay cut than it was originally anticipated that he would take.
That has made it difficult for the Mavericks to hold onto a pair of free agents that they would’ve liked to keep in Vince Carter and Shawn Marion. Carter has already moved on, signing with the Memphis Grizzlies. Marion on the other hand remains a free agent, but the Mavericks’ financial situation makes things difficult for general manager and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson to re-sign him.

"where our hands r tied financially n we’re not goin 2 be able 2 get them their market value, so I would call that a long shot at this pt."

It is also preventing them from being aggressive in regards to other free agents outside of Mavericks fans’ favorites.
Donnie Nelson on no bid by #Mavs 4 Boozer: "We got a power forward we kind of like in Dirk and you need cap space in order to make a bid.''
