How to download OS X Yosemite now

Apple unveiled the new OS for Mac a couple of months ago, and now the beta is available to the public.  The new operating system is available for up to 1 million Apple users that are interested in downloading Yosemite.

While some Apple users have been greeted with emails stating that OS X Yosemite is waiting for them to download, if you aren’t one of them, head over to Apple’s website.  At the OS X Yosemite beta download page, you will be prompted to log in, at which point instructions, along with a download code, should be available for redemption.

Clicking on the download code should take users directly to the Mac App Store with the download code for OS X Yosemite pre filled in, allowing users to start the download immediately.

Don’t expect to use Yosemite immediately however, as the download is 5.07 GB.  Even on the fastest internet speeds, it will take a little bit for the download to finish.  Once the OS is downloaded, users can install Yosemite on their Mac and begin using Yosemite.

While Yosemite is still in beta, Apple has advised users to back up their data on their Mac prior to performing the install.  If possible, a secondary Mac would be a great place to back it up to as well.  Also, Mavericks should be installed on a users Mac before updating to Yosemite.

Users will need to reinstall Mavericks on their Mac after the Yosemite beta is complete as well, and instructions on how to do so are listed on Apple’s website.
