You can stop calling the Miami Marlins and asking them if they want to part with their All-Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Teams have been doing just that, relentlessly, and the answer from the Marlins is always the same: No effing way in hell are we trading Giancarlo Stanton.

More from Miami Marlins

Or words to that effect.

As a matter of fact, the Marlins right now are looking to add talent, not subtract. The Fish Pond reports that Miami is looking for a starting pitcher, but their sense of urgency in this pursuit depends on the progress of a couple of their younger arms.

If the young guys don’t come through, the Marlins could turn to veteran Brad Penny who is currently in triple-A. Miami is also seeking a second baseman, says The Fish Pond.

So Miami are definitely looking to be buyers. A team that wants to improve now certainly is not going to dangle a player like Stanton. You build around Stanton, you don’t offer him as trade bait.

Miami fans have nothing to worry about. They can look forward to Stanton crushing laser beams into the seats for the rest of the year at least.

I don’t know what will happen in the future. Probably Stanton will end up in Boston or New York before it’s over. You know how the Marlins are about holding on to talent in the long-run. But for now, Stanton is a Marlin and that’s how they’re going to keep it.
