The Boston Red Sox have lost five straight and aren’t likely to make the postseason considering they sit 10.5 games behind the American League East leading Baltimore Orioles.

More from Boston Red Sox

Needless to say, it’s been a frustrating season in Beantown, not only for fans but players alike. That was rather evident when David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, clobbered a monster home run against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.

David Ortiz, who has been in a bit of prolonged slump for the entirety of the season (and one that has become worse over the past few days) finally got good wood on a ball today and blasted a three-run bomb over the wall come the third inning.

Big Papi certainly had no trouble enjoying the bomb as it took him an extremely long time to reach first base, this after a rather impressive bat flip by the veteran designated hitter.

After unloading on the pitch, Ortiz looked towards the Boston Red Sox bench and swung his bat towards the on-deck circle. In the process, he gave a look that appeared to be something along the lines of ‘I really have to run out another home run? Sigh’.

No, it wasn’t a Yasiel Puig level bat flip, but we’ve become spoiled with those considering they’re so eccentric. This Ortiz bat flip would have been pretty ballsy just a few short seasons ago before we were all Puigified.

I’m guessing the Tampa Bay Rays didn’t take too kindly to David Ortiz’s swagger, though this is the same guy who decided to walk to first base before ball four ever crossed the plate a few weeks ago.
