One of the more active teams on the market were the Miami Heat, who lost LeBron James but replaced him with Luol Deng, Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger.
As pointed out by the Miami Herald, Pat Riley tried to sign Carmelo Anthony to replace LeBron James when he learned that the superstar was going to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer. Needless to say, the deal never ended up happening as the Heat arrived far too late to the party.
"Riley called Carmelo Anthony’s agent after LeBron left but “that dance card had been punched. We were a little bit late to that party. I made a call but we were late in on that one.” Anthony didn’t resign with the Knicks until a couple days later."
This is all rather in significant at this juncture, but it’s still interesting to note what a fuming Pat Riley was up to in the moments after LeBron James made his decision.
