Just weeks after the San Francisco Giants were in a massive free fall, the team has now lost six in a row and is a season high three games behind the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers.

More from MLB Trade Rumors

Needless to say, the woeful Giants offense is in need of a spark and they’re hoping to find one with the addition of a new second baseman.

The position has been a black hole for the San Francisco Giants all season. They’ve attempted to play Brandon Hicks at the position, but had to DFA his sub .200 average. They promoted Joe Panik, who has likely been the best alternative, well before he was ready. They’ve even turned to cast-off Dan Uggla in hopes he would give the Giants an offensive boost. But so far nothing has worked, which is why the team continues to poke around the trade market.

There are some names that are said to be intriguing the San Francisco Giants’ brass however as Peter Gammons notes.

All of the above mentioned players would be significant upgrades for San Francisco, though, it’s unknown as to what their price tag would be.

The San Francisco Giants have a lot of young minor league talent but in terms of MLB-ready prospects, they’re not exactly well stocked. That may turn some teams off, especially given the Giants’ reluctance to part with their lower level talent.

Still, if the San Francisco Giants plan to make a postseason run, they’re going to need more production out of second base.
