The Los Angeles Angels made it clear in the days leading up to the July 31st deadline that they were unlikely to make a move at the time. Having already acquired closer Huston Street and waiting to see what they would get from C.J. Wilson upon his return from the disabled list, the Angels indicated that any moves from them would come in August.

With a week now gone by in August, the Angels are indeed looking to make a move. They would specifically like to upgrade their starting rotation, and understandably so given Wilson’s struggles and a recent injury to Tyler Skaggs. Per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register:

Obviously the Angels would be looking for a guy who can make more of an impact than Pestano, who will serve as little more than depth, in any August deal.

The Angels were reportedly more interested in deals after August 1st because they could afford to absorb some extra money instead of giving up more players. As Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors speculates, that could potentially put the team in the mix for guys like A.J. Burnett of the Phillies or possibly Bartolo Colon of the Mets.

In order to have any starting pitcher or any other player available for the postseason, a deal would have to get done by the beginning of September.
