With 7:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, the game was delayed because lighnting was within eight miles of the stadium and moments later the game was officially called off.
Alabama gets their win on a day the offense and defense looked much better than it did in the opener against West Virginia, so what’s the big deal?
The big deal is for those who bet on the game with a 42-point spread. Because the game did not complete or even get through the 55-minute marker, it means there is no action on this game and there are no winners or losers.
As if you needed another reason to show how maddeningly frustrating it is to bet on sports, especially college football with spreads this large, this is certainly it. A couple more minutes off the clock and Alabama either gets another touchdown to cover the spread or they run out the clock and are content with the game ending at 41-0.
Either way there would have been a concrete resolution rather than ending like this.
