Players are understandably optimistic when it comes to dealing with their own injuries. Players play and trainers tell injured ones not to. So if you are either a Cleveland Browns fan or have Ben Tate on your fantasy team, take this tweet you are about to read with a grain of salt.

Tate suffered a knee injury on a 25-yard run in the second quarter, according to Cleveland.com. Though it was not immediately clear that anything was wrong, Tate left the field and was unable to return. Backup Terrance West started the rest of the game.

More from Cleveland Browns

West performed quite well in his fill in duties, rushing for 100 yards on 16 carries.  Third-string back Isaiah Crowell ran for 32 yards on five carries and scored on runs of 3 and 15 yards. West figures to the the starting back if Tate can’t go on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Tate has had a history of injuries, sitting out his rookie season with the Houston Texans with an ankle injury. A backup to Arian Foster, Tate performed well in spell duties and eventually earned a contract and starting role in Cleveland this offseason.

West is a rookie drafted in the third round out of Towson. Crowell, who played at Alabama State, signed as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Indications are that Tate’s injury won’t keep him out for an extended amount of time, and should see the field again this season. Even if he does play Sunday, West and Crowell played well enough that they may have earned more carries in the future.
