Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington abruptly resigned from his position abruptly for personal matters. By all indications it was not because of his job performance, and general manager Jon Daniels said that he would have kept Washington on as manager in 2015.

That led many to speculate about why Washington decided to resign. Initially people suspected it could’ve been drugs or addiction given his history with cocaine.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said on Washington’s behalf that it wasn’t drug related.

“While we don’t want to touch on any of the specifics,” Daniels says, “Ron has given us permission to say this is not drug related.”

According to a report from Jamie Kelly, it was because of an alleged sexual assault.

Kelly writes on her website:

"I have learned this evening through a source with knowledge of the situation that long-time Texas Rangers skipper Ron Washington’s sudden departure from the club was due to impending legal issues stemming from an alleged sexual assault of an Asian reporter."

Adam J. Morris from SB Nation writes:

"Kelly is a credible source, and this is consistent with the type of things that have been floating around out there the past few days. If this news is correct, it would certainly go a long way towards explaining why the people who know what is going on have reacted the way they have."

105.3 The Fan radio show host Ben Rogers retweeted the post and said he also heard similar chatter, seemingly confirming the report.
