The Vikings have deactivated Adrian Peterson for Sunday’s game against the Patriots in the wake of his indictment on charges of reckless or negligent injury of a child, and the issuance of an arrest warrant stemming from same.

Unfortunately for Minnesota, it’s too late for them to print up new tickets before Sunday’s game. In a case of terrible timing, the player featured on this weekend’s tickets is none other than Adrian Peterson.

More from Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings, like all teams, feature different players on their tickets from one game to the next. “Why couldn’t this week have been Harrison Smith week?” you can just hear owner Zygi Wilf screaming somewhere.

Considering everything that is happening with Peterson, a little ticket gaffe is actually the least of the Vikings’ worries right now. They find themselves dealing with the PR nightmare of PR nightmares. Their superstar player, a supposed upstanding citizen, has been caught doing just about the most awful thing imaginable short of murder.

They can sit Peterson down for this weekend, but what about after that? Do they deactivate Peterson week after week until the league finally gets around to suspending him? Do they outright cut him?

To say nothing for the overall image of the NFL, which is at its lowest point in years after a string of high-profile awful incidents involving star players.

It’s not a great week to be affiliated with the NFL. Or the Vikings. Or Adrian Peterson.
