Although the Dallas Mavericks wanted to keep Shawn Marion, even after Chandler Parsons fell in their lap, it wasn’t meant to be.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Looking for more money than the Mavericks could offer and seeking playing time, Shawn Marion decided to  hit the open market. He drew interest from a variety of teams though eventually settled on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Marion has previously stated it wasn’t the Cavs addition of LeBron James that swayed him but the trade for Kevin Love which eventually made him sign on the dotted line.

The former UNLV star left more money on the table from other suitors though seems happy about his desire to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Not only will they compete for an NBA championship but Marion fits a much needed role on the Cavs which is why Sam Amico feels Marion will be the most underrated offseason signing.

"He will be the defensive stopped Andrew Wiggins was supposed to be but won’t this season. Prediction: Shawn Marion will prove to be the most underrated summer addition in the NBA this season."

While Shawn Marion is no longer the elite defender he once was, he’s still better than most and gives the Cleveland Cavaliers a solid presence on the defensive side of the floor alongside Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.

Cleveland may not have the interior paint presence they’re looking for though Marion should help in giving them a stout perimeter defense.
