Geno Smith had another disastrous performance in the New York Jets’ 31-0 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon and it appears his time as the team’s starting quarterback could be coming to an end.

According to reports that surfaced following the New York Jets’ embarrassing 31-0 loss to the San Diego Chargers in Week 5, quarterback Geno Smith missed a team meeting on Saturday and it did not sit well with his teammates.

From the New York Daily News:

"Smith missed team meetings on Saturday, according to a source familiar with the situation. It’s not known whether Smith received special permission not to attend, but team members were not pleased by his actions. It’s unclear what, if any, punishment the organization doled out to Smith. Ryan, in the midst of the first four-game losing streak since he took over five years ago, announced that Smith will start against the Broncos next week."

Smith has looked like anything but a starting caliber quarterback in the NFL, so the last thing he can afford to be doing is missing out on team meetings and losing the locker room.

While head coach Rex Ryan seemed to indicate Geno Smith would start again against the Denver Broncos, it could prove to be a decision that ends up being his ultimate downfall in New York.

If there was ever a time to turn to Michael Vick, that time would be now.
