The Sacramento Kings made a big move last season when they traded for forward Rudy Gay. They hope to be major players again this season but clearly don’t have the same kind of assets they did a year ago.

The Sacramento Kings wanted to make a big splash last season and they did just that when they acquired forward Rudy Gay from the Toronto Raptors.

This offseason, they decided they needed  a pass-first contest and sent the high-scoring Isaiah Thomas to the Phoenix Suns in a sign-and-trade. They replaced him with Darren Collison. Now, they are looking for a way to make up for some of the scoring they lost in Thomas.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders reports the Kings have been “active, engaged and aggressive” as they try to strike a deal.

"Not sure they have a target list — but they have been active, engaged and aggressive in trying to make deals. I don’t expect that to change until they start really winning again. The Kings don’t have super sexy assets to trade. They have some contracts and guys with potential, but its not like they are sitting on a lottery ticket ready to cash. They need someone to “want” to move someone."

That doesn’t necessarily mean they are targeting a scorer but the Sacramento Kings know they are not a playoff team right now and they clearly want that to change. If some of their young players like Ben McLemore develop, there’s the potential to make a big deal.
