Aaron Rodgers wants to improve on consistency

The Green Bay Packers have seen their offense finally producing at a high level over the last couple of weeks against the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Things are beginning to calm down and get back to normal in Green Bay after quarterback Aaron Rodgers backed up his “relax” comments, and the Packers are right back into playoff contention. Rodgers still believes that the offense can improve, and especially wants to improve the offensive consistency.

More from Green Bay Packers

“We need to produce more on offense. We are averaging lower yards per game than we have in a long time. So we need to pick that up. I think we are in the top six or seven in scoring but we need to do a better job converting third downs and having some more plays, because it’s putting a little bit too much stress on our defense.”

Why isn’t the offense producing more? Rodgers had an answer for that question as well.

“I think there are a lot of reasons for that. We’re not doing as well on first down as we have in the past. We chart everything in our offensive breakdowns and our first-down percentage, winning the down, is very low. Third-down percentage has been OK. I think we are in the mid-40s. Red zone percentage has been up. We have done a really good job down there. Four for four last game. But I just think it is inconsistency on first down has given us some more difficult third down(s). We didn’t convert a third-and-1 last game. Didn’t convert and third-and-4 when I missed Jordy (Nelson), to do some plays we’ve hit in the past, we didn’t hit. You’ve got to hit those to get some more plays. Last game we had zero drives of 10 plays or more. Over the years, we have had two, three, four, five of those per game. If you’re not getting those, you obviously are not reaching that 70-plus plays (level).”

Obviously Rodgers feels that there is plenty of room for the Packers to improve, and he is just the man to help the offense do just that. The offensive line has had some injury issues, but they are beginning to play better as well. Eddie Lacy finally came through with a big game against the Vikings on Thursday night, which was also a very encouraging sign for the Packers.

Rodgers has always been known for wanting perfection, and he has already shown that he can follow through on his wishes for improvement this year. He has thrown for 1,155 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only one interception so far this season. Those numbers are extremely impressive, and they have gotten continually better since the beginning of the season.

All of that being said, there is no doubt that the Packers could improve their offense over the next few weeks. They have a ton of potential to move forward and progress as a team, and Rodgers’ leadership skills will help make that happen. Green Bay’s offense has a lot more potential than they have shown so far, and they will continue to work hard and improve as the season continues on.
