You may recall earlier this season the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks exchanged trade scenarios involving one of the many D’Back shortstops.

No such deal was ever agreed upon though now with the Snakes under a new regime, might the two sides rekindle trade talks? It seems to be a possibility as the New York Mets have a stash of young pitching while the Arizona Diamondbacks have multiple shortstops they could potentially part with.

"Piecoro goes on to write that the Diamondbacks could use of the shortstops to get a starting pitcher in return. And the Mets, in theory, line up as a potential trade partner because of the arsenal of starters they have assembled and the uncertainty they have at shortstop."

After J.J. Hardy signed a $40 million dollar extension with the Baltimore Orioles today it appears as if the free agent market for shortstops just went up significantly and it may be in the best interest of the New York Mets to try and acquire such via trade instead of spending their money on a shortstop in free agency.

As for the Diamondbacks, they currently have one of the worst starting pitching rotations in the league and could use a significant upgrade. Unfortunately it’s unlikely the talent they have available will command a top starter though they can likely nab themselves a second or more likely third arm in the rotation if they were to move one of their shortstops.

It may not be what many were hoping for but the D’Backs need to start someplace if they’re to get back in contention in the National League West.

There is no deal imminent between the Mets and Diamondbacks though they do appear to be obvious partners in a potential deal.
