Georgia announced the stunning suspension of running back Todd Gurley for violating an NCAA rule on Thursday and many have been scrambling to figure out just what exactly Gurley did to find himself in trouble.

Seth Emerson of Macon.com was among those that reported Gurley possibly violated rules in dealing with memorabilia brokers and might have “received money in exchange for his autograph.”

Well, based on EBay auctions, it appears this is indeed what Gurley did to earn the suspension.

From Marc Weiszer of onlineathens.com:

"There are plenty of Todd Gurley autographed items listed on EBay that can be found by searching “Todd Gurley signed.”Gurley has 248 and fellow Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota of Oregon has 43. Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper has 74. Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner last year, has 259.“It doesn’t shock me,” a person that has connections to the memorabilia industry who did not want to be named said of Gurley memorabilia. “When you see that kind of volume from one person it probably raises some red flags. I doubt it’s like a major guy, but there’s people on the market that have a website, but don’t have a storefront.”"

This does not mean that Gurley definitely received money for autographing memorabilia, but, given the other rumors, it can’t be ignored.

Gurley rushed for 773 yards and eight touchdown on 94 attempts in Georgia’s first five games and appeared to be the favorite to win the Heisman trophy.

Now, Gurley’s future is in serious question.
