Giants Owner Jokes About Cowboys Getting Ebola; Team Briefed On Virus

The New York Giants travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in Week 7 of the NFL regular season. New York is being briefed on Ebola, while team co-owner Steve Tisch previously joked about the disease.

As the New York Giants prepare for a trip to Dallas, the team is being briefed on how to handle the Ebola virus.

“Our athletic trainers and team physicians have been briefed on the scope of the Ebola-virus disease,” Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said via email.  “We have distributed a fact sheet to our employees and distributed similar information to our players electronically.’’

Previously, Giants co-owner Steve Tisch joked that the Cowboys would be the first to get Ebola.

“I think the Cowboys are going to get it first,” Tisch said earlier this month, via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.  “So it’s to our advantage.”

The Ebola virus has become a real threat in the Dallas area, so Tisch probably shouldn’t have been joking about anyone contracting the virus. Not only is it a joke in poor taste, but it also provides some bulletin board material for the Cowboys.

With the Giants coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend and the Cowboys riding high after defeating the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, it probably wasn’t a good idea to stir the pot.
