New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith admits he’s having difficulty with the new triangle offense.

When the New York Knicks decided to implement the triangle offense this offseason, they knew some players would have initial struggles.

What they probably didn’t expect was to have said players still struggling to grasp the basics as the regular season approaches. Alas, that’s exactly what has happened as multiple players have expressed confusion with the triangle including JR Smith who continues to struggle with the offense.

“Thinking too much,’’ Smith said. “It’s just not [being] really sure where my shots come at. I don’t want to take it early, but I’m getting good looks early. Just got to keep running the offense and trust the offense. Hopefully it will come.”

JR Smith says he’s spoken to New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher about his woes in the system while Fisher himself suggested that Smith isn’t the only Knicks player having difficulty picking everything up.

Of course it’s not rare for players (or an entire team) to struggle with the triangle offense as we’ve seen such before, though most were probably hoping the New York Knicks would be a little further along in their progress given they’ve essentially had all offseason to learn the system.

A few weeks ago Smith suggested it would likely take a few months to fully pick up the triangle offense though it appears as if it could take longer than that if he and others are still having trouble picking things up.

For what it’s work, Carmelo Anthony stated he’s spoken to players like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen about the triangle yet even Melo has expressed frustration with the new offense.
