According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies are trying hard to trade Ryan Howard now that the MLB offseason has begun.

The Philadelphia Phillies are coming into the MLB offseason looking to make some moves, and they could also be looking to blow some things up and get younger. One player that they want to move, is first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard had a decent season last year with the Phillies, but they are looking to move him for some young talent.

According to a report from ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Phillies are “working hard” to find a trade partner that will take Howard on.

Howard played in 153 regular season games with the Phillies last season, hitting 23 home runs to go along with 95 RBI’s and a .223 batting average. That average will scare some teams away, and the fact that Howard is still owed around $60 million in salary is another thing that will limit the trade interest. It wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Phillies have no luck moving him, but it is worth a shot.

Through his 11 season with the Phillies, Howard has hammered 334 home runs, drove in 1,058 runs, and compiled a .265 batting average. He doesn’t have too much left in the tank at 34 years of age, and Philadelphia needs to do their best to trade him while he is still showing some signs of success at the plate.

It will be interesting to see if anyone decides to give the Phillies an offer and see if they’ll take it. More than likely, the Phillies would move him for a fairly cheap deal, and they would likely be willing to eat some of his salary as well. That being said, he simply isn’t the type of player that many teams will be fighting over on the trade market.

Expect to hear more about the Phillies trying to trade Howard throughout the course of the offseason.
