Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade told Minnesota Timbrwolves‘ rookie Andrew Wiggins he has all of the tools to be the next great NBA star

More from Miami Heat

On Saturday night, the Miami Heat took down the Minnesota Timberwolves 102-92 behind 25 points and eight assists by guard Dwyane Wade. In the game, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins finished with 10 points and two assists. After the game, Wade went to Wiggins to have a one-on-one chat with him.

“He asked me if I wanted to be great,” Wiggins said of his postgame exchange with Wade via Israel Gutierrez of ESPN.com. “I said yes. He said I’ve got all the tools to be great, just keep working.”

Wade had the same done for him as a rookie by another future Hall-of-Famer, current Brooklyn Nets‘ big man Kevin Garnett so he was, in a way, passing the torch, much like Garnett did for him.

Wiggins was obviously very excited to hear that from Wade.

“Those words at the end of the game just motivate me,” Wiggins said. “Already I’m thinking about what he said, and it’s going to carry through for a long time now.

“He’s one of the people I watched growing up, one of the people I idolized. That guy right there is great.”

That’s very high praise from a player like Wade and Wiggins was clearly and rightfully appreciative of it.

Wade, who re-signed with the Heat in the offseason, will be going into the Hall-of-Fame the as soon as he is eligible. He’s gotten off to a fantastic start this season, averaging 19.7 points, 6.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 51.1% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 76.7% from the free throw line. Wiggins is averaging 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 43.1% from the floor, 40.0% from three and 56.3% from charity stripe.
