Free agent starting pitcher Jon Lester has the Chicago Cubs interested in signing him, as well as the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees.

This group of MLB free agents is known for a strong group of starting pitchers. Max Scherzer is in line to make the most money of the group, but rather than him signing first to set the market for everybody else, it sounds like left-handed stud Jon Lester is going to find a new team first.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Cubs are ‘very serious’ about Lester, with the Giants and Yankees also looming as possible landing spots for Lester:

"According to major league sources, the Cubs are very serious about Lester. The Giants are becoming more serious about him. An elite lefty at Yankee Stadium? The Yankees are contemplating a move but haven’t committed to one."

Lester has long been linked to the Cubs this off-season due to his familiarity with general manager Theo Epstein and Chicago’s ability to spend. The Giants are an interesting possibility with the departure of Pablo Sandoval and the payroll that has therefore been freed up; imagine the duo of Madison Bumgarner and Lester at the top of a rotation.

As for the Yankees, they join the Boston Red Sox as the two typical big bullies in free agency that could make a run at Lester. There are rumors that Boston has already made an offer, so it might take something aggressive for the Yankees to swoop in. But as we know by now, we can never rule that out.

With all of these teams getting “serious” about Lester and one offer possibly on the table, it sounds like the lefty might have a team sooner rather than later.
