Boston Bruins Could Host 2016 Winter Classic
The Boston Bruins could host next season’s Bridgestone Winter Classic
If you’re a Boston Bruins fan, you’re probably already seeing visions of snow dancing across a rink at Fenway — I know I am.

University of Maine captain Devin Shore once told me in an interview that playing on the ice at Fenway was the most incredible experience– and according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, that could very well be something that the Boston Bruins and one other lucky team get to experience next winter. He reports that the league is expected to make the announcement in either January or February of 2015, although he implied that Boston receiving the game is imminent.
This news comes on the heels of confirmations that the other three games — two Stadium Series games, in addition to the Heritage Classic game — have been awarded to the Minnesota Wild (SS), the Colorado Avalanche (SS), and the Winnipeg Jets (HC). The Heritage Classic is coming to Manitoba in time for the newly-reincarnated Jets’ fifth year anniversary, while the other two games have been given to franchises that have patiently waited for outdoor games for years.
As a Bruins fan, I can’t imagine the game will be held anywhere but the iconic baseball stadium that hosts the Boston Red Sox — and while I’d die happy if the Winter Classic was played between the Bruins and the Canadiens, it’s more likely to be awarded to an American franchise. Maybe the Sabres can bring their newly-discovered compete level to Beantown?
I wouldn’t be mad.
