Julius Hudacek of the SHL is back with the macarena as his new game-winning celebration

26-year-old goaltender Julius Hudacek has actually gotten the hashtag #Hudashow incorporated into regular usage on Twitter for hockey fans around the world.

Known for his love of fun post-win celebrations, we first encountered Hudacek earlier this fall when he coerced his teammate into playing leapfrog with him all the way into the goal following a team win. It was hilarious and adorable and I’m not entirely sure teammate Henrik Lundberg really understood what was going on, but it was entertaining for pretty much everyone involved.

This time, though, he grabbed a group of young fans to help him celebrate, dragging the children out on to the ice for a rousing few minutes of the macarena.

Three things I observed here:

  1. Julius Hudacek is obviously capable of winning games, and I want to see him and Roberto Luongo on the same team just to witness whatever madness would ensue
  2. Kids in Sweden seem to understand the Macarena far better than they understand how to play leapfrog
  3. European hockey may not be as big as the NHL, but I think that — at times — games in Europe are more fun to go to. The crowds are always excited to be there, and welcome this kind of thing. If you think the NHL would, just picture what would be said if Evander Kane, P.K. Subban, or Phil Kessel led the team in a game of leapfrog or the macarena. Can we find this kind of lighthearted joy at hockey again? Yeah? Okay.

Please let Hudacek keep winning games.
