Niedermayer played for the New Jersey Devils for 13 seasons, winning three Stanley Cups (1995, 2000, 2003) and a Norris Trophy (2004) for best defenseman in the league. He finished his career with the Ducks, after joining the team in 2005 so he could finally play with his brother, Rob. He won a fourth Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007 before retiring in 2010. Niedermayer is also a member of the triple gold club, winning gold for Team Canada at the Olympics (2002, 2010), World Championships (2004) and the World Junior Championship (1991). He also won gold for Canada at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. To this day, Niedermayer is the only hockey player in history to win the top prize in all 6 major tournaments in North America (Stanley Cup, Olympics, World Championships, World Cup of Hockey, World Junior Championship, Memorial Cup). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.

Dominik Hasek was just recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November. He was one of the best goaltenders of his era, as well as all time. He won the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender six times, five with the Buffalo Sabres and one with the Detroit Red Wings. He also won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings. Hasek led the Czech Republic to an Olympic gold medal in the 1998 Olympics, where he carried the Czech Republic to a shootout win over Canada in the semifinals and then shutout Russia 1-0 in the gold medal game.

Hasek’s teammate during that 1998 Olympic gold win was forward Robert Reichel. Reichel had the shootout winner in that shootout win against Canada in the semifinals. He also won gold for the Czech Republic at the 1996, 2000 and 2001 World Championships. He had the honor of captaining the Czech Republic eight times throughout his career. He played 11 NHL seasons and was a two-time 40-goal scorer.

These three NHL greats will be joined by Fran Rider, for her contributions at establishing woman’s hockey at the international level; Maria Rooth, who helped Sweden upset the U.S. woman’s team in the 2006 Turin Olympics to lead them to a silver medal; Lucio Topatigh, who played 20 seasons for Italy; and Monique Scheier-Schneider of Luxembourg, who will receive the Paul Loicq Award.
