The Oakland Raiders are not giving up on trying to hire Jim Harbaugh.

Jim Harbaugh is slated to become the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines this week, but the stubborn Oakland Raiders are not about to let him take that job without first trying to convince him to stay in the NFL.

It’s no secret that the Raiders covet Jim Harbaugh, but it’s also no secret that the Wolverines are his best bet at this moment in time. Nevertheless, the marriage between Harbaugh and the Raiders is going to at least be explored in a meeting on Monday morning before the wheels of Black Monday truly start to spin.

According to NFL Network, the Raiders are not losing hope that they can pry Harbaugh away from Michigan and are meeting with him this morning.

This could be Harbaugh just going through the motions to see what the Raiders have to offer before taking the job at Michigan. There were reports that Harbaugh was torn between staying in the NFL and going to Michigan and this meeting with the Raiders does nothing to quell those rumors.

Oakland may be able to pry Harbaugh away from Michigan by offer $8 million or more per season plus control of the front office, much like what Bill Belichick has over in New England. This is an x-factor that Michigan cannot match, as controlling his own NFL team is something that Harbaugh seems like he’d want to do and giving him general manager duties means that a situation like the one that ran him out of San Francisco may not arise in Oakland.

Of course, Oakland is not far from San Francisco and this could just be Harbaugh being polite and giving the Raiders a meeting before taking the job at Michigan later this week.
