Temperatures have been bitterly cold in the Boston area this week, but New England Patriots defensive lineman Chris Jones just laughs … while wearing shorts.

The New England Patriots are preparing for Saturday’s AFC Divisional Playoff game with the Baltimore Ravens as an Arctic chill moves across the region, but that hasn’t stopped defensive lineman Chris Jones from thinking it’s still a bright, sunny summer day.

Yes, on Wednesday, Jones practiced in shorts despite a wind chill of 11 degrees.

Thursday was even colder and Jones really had to bundle up, according to ESPN Boston.

Jones was wearing sweatpants on Thursday … with short sleeves.

“Honestly it’s just something I’ve done since high school and all throughout college I never wore sleeves,’ Jones said. “I just didn’t enjoy sleeves. It’s just something I do. I’m not trying to prove anything or show anybody that I’m tougher than anybody else.”

Hey, the gun show much go on, right?

On the other hand, his teammates have noticed, but “tough” isn’t the word being used to describe Jones.

“Man, he is crazy, period,” defensive lineman Alan Branch said. “I think I’ve seen him wear sweats one time. I don’t even think he wore long sleeves that day. He doesn’t feel the elements I guess.

“I definitely do [feel the cold]. But it doesn’t hinder me or my performance. But, man, I don’t know how that guy does it.”

Some investigation finds that Jones is not from Antarctica, the North Pole or even Canada.

He’s a native of Brownsburg, Ind., who played collegiately at Bowling Green before being drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

While there may be some validity to the whole tough guy thing, many players choose to go sleeveless in cold weather because it gives opponents one less place to grab onto them.

Former NFL linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo shared a story at FOX Sports last year about playing in the cold.

"What allowed me to wear so little in cold games was a cocktail Brian Urlacher and Muhsin Muhammad revealed to me. There is a cream called Warm Skin that we would mix with Vaseline and Tiger Balm.We would mix all these topicals together and rub them into our arms, legs, back … pretty much over our entire body."

Ayanbadejo even shared a pro tip:

"Make sure you put your jock on before you do this or you will get extremely uncomfortably hot in some of the wrong places."

Call that the Revenge of the Nerds rule.
