Seton Hall Sterling Gibbs dropped a cheap shot elbow on a player
By Ernie Padaon
Sterling Gibbs of Seton Hall dropped a cheap shot during this loose ball scrum and nailed Villanova PG Ryan Arcidiacono right between his eyes.
Things got a little ugly and violent in college basketball on Monday Night when the Seton Hall Pirates faced off against the Villanova Wildcats. During the game, a few players were diving for a loose ball when Seton Hall’s Sterling Gibbs threw a fist or an elbow at Villinova PG Ryan Acidiacono and landed it right between his eyes. It was a dirty cheap shot from Gibbs as Acidiacono.
Check out the ridiculous hit here:
Gibbs is likely frustrated at the way his team has been playing this season. They lost to the Wildcats 80-54 and the team has lost 8 times in their last 10 contests. That was a frustration foul, but it was also a cheap shot. Gibbs was given a flagrant-2 and was tossed out of the game for the hit.
He deserved to get tossed out of the game, but he could face more disciplinary actions for that hit. That punch was unnecessary and should not be tolerated. We will see how the NCAA responds to that punch to the face.
UPDATE:
Gibbs jumped onto his twitter account after the game to apologize about the hit.
