Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is 36-years-old and is still unsure about his football future in the NFL. Could the veteran Pro Bowl receiver call it a career?

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne might be at the end of his football career.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Wayne is still unsure if he will ever lace up his cleats, and put on his shoulder pads once again. Wayne last season had a devastating injury that resulted in a set of torn triceps.

Now going through the rehabilitation phase of recovering from his injury, Wayne is still unsure if he should play the game of football anymore.

In addition to his triceps injury, Wayne is also suffering from knee problems, as well as an elbow injury. As early as January we heard that Wayne was on the fence about his playing status but still considering playing another season in the league.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Wayne did come back to the NFL because he’s been an ironman during his 15 year NFL career. Back in October of 2013, Wayne torn his ACL and was forced to miss the rest of the NFL season. What hurt the most about Wayne’s injury was the fact that his 189 consecutive game streak came to an end. At the time it was the third-longest streak for a wide receiver in NFL history. However that was 2013, and in 2015 Wayne doesn’t know if he can ever get back to his iron man status.

If Wayne does return he has no interest in playing for any other team except the Colts, the franchise that drafted him with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft.

However, if Wayne does return to the Colts he’s going to have to see a reduction in his playing time. If the Colts want to sustain success they have to embrace the blossoming stardom and emergence of T.Y. Hilton becoming a go-to receiver in the offense. This season quarterback Andrew Luck, and Hilton created magic, and the Colts have to make Hilton more involved in the offense.

Last season Wayne produced a decent season finishing with 64 catches, 779 yards, and two receiving touchdowns. The drop off in Wayne’s game is evident because those numbers are some of the lowest totals in his career.

Furthermore, this might the end for Wayne’s career and if it is, he should become a Hall of Famer. Wayne’s been one of the most iconic wide receivers for the Colts, and he’s also the only person who’s ever been able to escape the shadow of former Colts wide receiver, Marvin Harrison.

Whether Wayne returns to the game of football or leaves it, his career legacy has already been established.
