The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would reportedly love to sign defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh this offseason to pair him alongside of Gerald McCoy on the defensive line.

Ndamukong Suh is officially headed for the open free agency market after the Detroit Lions decided that they weren’t going to place the franchise tag on him. There are going to be quite a few teams that will try to sign him, and you can mark the Tampa Bay Buccaneers down as one of the teams with interest in bringing him on board.

Needless to say, that is a dream that every single defensive coordinator and head coach has. Pairing two of the most dominant defensive linemen in the game together would make the Buccaneers nearly impossible to run against. Whether or not Suh is going to be interested in signing with Tampa Bay is another question.

Suh ended up recording 53 tackles to go along with 8.5 sacks. At 6’4″ and 305 pounds he is an absolute beast in the middle of the line, and helped the Lions to being the number one rushing defense in the league. He is recognized as one of the best defensive players in the entire NFL, while also having the reputation of being one of the dirtiest players as well.

McCoy on the other hand ended the 2014 season with 34 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. His numbers are extremely similar to Suh’s, and at 6’4″ and 300 pounds is almost the exact same physically as well.

Putting those two on the same defensive line would be an absolute nightmare for opposing offenses. There wouldn’t be much of a running game for them, and their quarterback would always see pressure due to the massive front of the line. It would be an impressive duo to say the very least, and Tampa Bay’s defense would take a major step forward.

Tampa Bay finished with just the 28th ranked defense against the pass and 19th ranked defense against the run last year. Those rankings aren’t going to get the job done, but adding a dominant piece like Suh would help both of those rankings jump in 2015.

It will be interesting to see where Suh ends up signing, but the Buccaneers are a team to keep an eye on. They have the number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft as well, which will bring in their new starting quarterback. Suh would cost a lot of money, but if the Buccaneers can give him the type of deal he wants they won’t regret it.
