The gauntlet has been tossed and I for one am loving it.
As far as I’m concerned: Robert Flores for SportsCenter Anchor of the Year.
Flores rules and here’s why.
He does not bow down to the alter of paper thin egos of professional athletes. After Lakers guard Nick Young claimed a dolphin tried to kill him recently, Flores busted on Young’s girlfriend, Iggy Azalea.
"“And what did we learn? We learned that according to the Lakers’ Nick Young a dolphin recently tried to kill him,” Flores began. “So Nick, while dolphins are trying to kill you, your girlfriend is trying to kill hip hop. Let’s call it even, OK?”"
Of course, Nick Young, didn’t find Flores’ joke funny and eloquently took to Twitter to pen his umbrage.
Last night Robert Flores was on the Sedano and Stink radio show. When asked about his comments Flores said it was “all in good fun.” Asked if he was worried about Nick Young’s apparent threats, Flores unloaded another zinger about the Young’s poor shooting and said:
"If you look at his numbers, there is a 70% chance that—if he takes a shot at me—he’s going to miss. I’m just looking at the numbers, so I’m good."
Funny stuff!
What makes it even better is Flores has done something no one else has done for the first time in this young century, he hasn’t backpedaled and apologized. Flores is sticking with it. He’s manning up. He’s even going further and doubling down on the hilarity.
Flores isn’t just exercising his right to free speech, he’s also exercising his right to have a personality at ESPN.
Bravo, Robert Flores. Continue, sir.
