Detroit Lions star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh’s teammates want him back in Detroit and view him as a “key part of everything.”

Ndamukong Suh has been one of the hottest names in the NFL over the past few days after the Detroit Lions decided not to place the franchise tag on him. He will hit the unrestricted free agency market on March 10th, and almost every single team in the NFL is already showing interest in him.

While there are quite a few teams across the league that want to bring him on board, the Lions would still like to retain him if possible. Their chances are looking less likely with each passing day, but they aren’t going to let him go without a fight. According to a report, his teammates in Detroit want him back and view him as a “key part to everything.”

The main comments came from safety James Ihedigbo, who was talking with the Detroit News this week.

“I want him back. He’s such a key part to everything we do that we hope that we can get him back,” Ihedigbo said. “It’s the nature of the business, so it’s really out of my hands and what I think really doesn’t matter.”

Needless to say, the Lions probably feel the very same way about Suh and what he has brought to the defense. Suh finished the 2014 season with 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks, and at 6’4″ and 305 pounds is an absolute physical freak on the line. There aren’t many offensive lines that are able to keep him at bay throughout an entire game, and even fewer running backs that can gain yardage up the middle.

Detroit ranked as the NFL’s best defense against the run last season, which shows just how valuable a player like Suh is.

It will be very interesting to see what ends up happening with Suh over the next couple of weeks. There will be plenty of rumors coming out and quite a few teams bidding against each other to make something happen with Suh. Detroit doesn’t have a great chance to bring him back, but they are going to throw an offer on the table as well.

Suh will be able to choose whoever he wants to play the next chapter of his career with. He is going to have a very difficult decision ahead of him when everything is said and done, but perhaps his teammates can convince him to come back.
