The Michigan State Spartans have been a force to be reckoned with this postseason after being given a 7-seed in the East Region alongside great teams like Villanova, Virginia, Oklahoma and Louisville were also placed.
The Spartans defeated 10-seed Georgia, 2-seed Virginia, 3-seed Oklahoma and 4-seed Louisville to find themselves in Indianapolis this week, poised to take on 1-seeded Duke in the first of two Final Four games on Saturday.
In 2005, Michael Moore founded the Traverse City Film Festival, held annually inTraverse City, Michigan, and he later was in charge of the renovations to the iconic and historic State Theater where he shows films. Well today, in honor of Michigan State being in the Final Four, Moore said via Twitter that he wouldn’t be showing any films on Saturday, but instead will be showing the Michigan State-Duke game on a 50-foot screen. The best part? Admittance is totally free.
No 6pm movie tonight at the State Theatre in Traverse City. I'm showing the Michigan State Final Four game instead on the 50ft screen! Free!

After a 21-10 season, Michigan State had a tough schedule in the Big Ten Tournament where they had to play Ohio State, Maryland and eventually Wisconsin in the championship game. The Spartans took Wisconsin to overtime but lost the game. Nonetheless, Michigan State proved they could compete with any team and that carried over to the NCAA Tournament where they’ve won some huge games including a 76-70 win over Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals in the Elite Eight.
Under head coach Tom Izzo, Michigan State won a National Championship in 2000 and made the NCAA Tournament each year since 1998, making the Final Four in five of those years. Michigan State played Duke in their second game of the season back in November, losing to Jahlil Okafor and the Blue Devils 81-71.
Now, the Spartans behind Travis Trice, Branden Dawson and Denzel Valentine will compete in an extremely tough test Saturday facing Duke’s Okafor, Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow and the winner will take on Kentucky or Wisconsin in the National Championship.
