Brooklyn Nets’ CEO Brett Yormark made a slick jab at the New York Knicks and their lack of playoff appearances in the past few seasons.

More from Brooklyn Nets

As the newest members to the New York NBA basketball scene, the Brooklyn Nets, formerly the New Jersey Nets, have been the premier organization in the city for the past couple of years. In fact, the Nets have made the playoffs in each season since becoming the Brooklyn Nets while the New York Knicks have made the playoffs just one time during that span.

With guys like Carmelo Anthony, young up-and-comer Tim Hardaway Jr. and, at one point, Amar’e Stoudemire coming through the Knicks’ organization, you would think that playoff appearances wouldn’t be too difficult to come by.

However, the team has been one of the worst in the NBA for the past couple of seasons, including finishing a terrible 17-65 this season, the league’s second-worst record.

Now that the NBA Playoffs are upon us, it’s time to look at matchups and who didn’t make the cut. Obviously, the Knicks didn’t make it and Brooklyn Nets’ CEO Brett Yormack took notice of the fact that his now-crosstown rivals will be watching the game from home as Madison Square Garden remains playoff-less for at least the next year.

According to an email to Nets fans discovered by the New York Post, Yormack had this to say:

"“We want to thank the Brooklyn community and the entire fan base for your unwavering support. You are instrumental in the team’s success and have helped us advance to the playoffs each year we’ve been in the borough. Brooklyn is the only place to catch playoff basketball in New York, and we are excited to see you at Barclays Center.”"

Sure, it may not seem like much of a jab at the Knicks, but calling the Barclays Center the only place in New York where you can catch a playoff basketball game is not only true, but a bit of salt in the wounds of Knicks fans.

It is a fact, though, so Knicks fans can’t be too angry at the email’s content. Maybe if the Knicks would spend less time trying to win the first overall pick in the NBA Draft and try to win some basketball games, they wouldn’t be insulted by the other professional team in New York that has only been there for three seasons.

Maybe next year, Knicks fans.
