Alex Ovechkin scored another goal on Saturday that only he could score in the second round playoff series against the New York Rangers.

We’ve come to expect the extraordinary from three-time Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin in his Hall of Fame career and he managed to do just that on Saturday.

The New York Rangers took a quick 2-0 lead over the Washington Capitals in Game 2 of their best of seven series and later had a 3-1 lead midway through the third period when Ovechkin pulled off another highlight-reel goal.

Ovechkin was defended tightly by Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi but managed to split the two veteran defensemen with his unrivaled combination of speed and power and fired off a shot from his knees to beat one of the best goalie’s in the world in Henrik Lundqvist.

It’s hard to be surprised by anything Ovechkin does on the ice after seeing many breathtaking moves and jaw-dropping goals throughout his career, but this certainly qualified as an eye-popping goal that will be played on all the highlights shows tonight.

Ovechkin has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in his career, but with a few more goals like that, he may get there this year, although the President’s Trophy winning Rangers won’t be easy to defeat in seven games.

Despite Ovechkin’s goal, the Caps weren’t able to force overtime or beat the Blueshirts and lost 3-2 as the series is tied at 1-1.
