A look at not only why the Elimination Chamber event was brought back by WWE, but what matches will be planned for the evil structure

It’s rare in today’s day and age of the internet for WWE to blindside us with some news, but they did just that on Monday night with the news that there will be a second pay-per-view show in the month of May. That second show will be none other than the Elimination Chamber event, which will take place on Sunday, May 31.

With absolutely no news of this leaking over the course of the past few weeks, you have to immediately make the assumption that this was thrown together on the fly, and indeed it was.

According to a report from PWInsider, the idea to put the event together was confirmed within the company just back on May 8, which was literally a few days ago. Now as for why it was brought back, well, as many had assumed, the Elimination Chamber event was brought back for the sole purpose of retaining a lot of the new subscribers that signed up for the month of May, which we know was free.

Still, they now have a second show to put on this month that’s carried by a gimmick match. So with that being the case, now the question turns to what matches will be contested inside the Chamber.

Well, shockingly enough, according to Dave Meltzer, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will not be decided inside the structure. Neither will the US title, for that matter. No, the two titles that will be decided inside the Elimination Chamber match will be the Tag Team titles and the now-vacant Intercontinental Championship.

With Daniel Bryan having to give up the IC strap on Monday night, the match for the vacant belt should be one of the better Chamber matches that we’ve seen in quite some time. When you think of the potential names that can be involved, the writing is on the wall for something special to take place.

What do you think, are you happy that WWE brought the Elimination Chamber match back? Let us know in the comments below.
