Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden feels bad about his Jameis Winston comment and called Jimbo Fisher to apologize.

Florida State fans were caught a little off guard this week when former coach and Seminoles legend Bobby Bowden said there was a consensus among FSU fans and boosters that Jameis Winston was an embarrassment.

Winston had his fair share of off-field issues, but did win the Heisman Trophy and lead the Seminoles to a National Championship during his time under center.

On Thursday, after those comments made the rounds on the internet, Bowden made another radio appearance on Dan Le Batard’s show and tried to set the record straight about those comments.

Specifically, he said that he felt a bit ambushed by the question and was caught off guard. He acknowledged that he didn’t handle or answer the question well since he wasn’t really prepared, and that he even called Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher to apologize.

Interestingly enough though, it looks like Bowden didn’t reach out to Jameis Winston to apologize, and the negative comments were about him. I didn’t listen to the interview however, so maybe he did say that, we just have these tweets from a listener to base it on.
