Keith Olbermann says Roger Goodell should recuse himself from Deflategate appeal

ESPN’s Keith Olbermann, never one for staying quiet on a juicy topic, has some thoughts on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s role in the whole “Deflategate” (or whatever we’re calling it now) debacle.

Olbermann took on Deflategate Daily Show style, wearing a 1970s suit and calling out Goodell for “making the Patriots look like victims” despite their cheating ways as Goodell plays “judge, jury, and witness.” Among the gems of Olbermann’s rant include “the appearance of a conflict of interest looks an awful lot like your face, Roger Goodell.”

Here is the full video:

Olbermann doesn’t save all his ire for Goodell, calling out Patriots owner Robert Kraft for telling SI‘s Peter King that, as Olbermann puts it, “Tom Brady is not a liar because he’s never lied…to me… that I can prove.” His solution? That Goodell recuse himself from the Deflategate appeal hearing, and allow the Patriots to return to the role of cheater rather than victim. (It also contains a rather tone-deaf take on the Mad Men finale, which Olbermann clearly didn’t get. But hey, that’s not his job).

Attacking Goodell has become so commonplace now that it’s hard to even bat an eye at another of these takedowns; but Olbermann hits the nail right on the head here. It just goes to show that prominent sports personalities can attack the commissioner, and as long as they’re not Bill Simmons, they’ll be fine. (Sorry, Bill).
