Jets CB Darrelle Revis slams his old team regarding DeflateGate controversy

In the wake of Tom Brady’s four-game suspension as a result of the DeflateGate controversy, many members of last year’s Super Bowl-winning Patriots team have stepped up to defend their quarterback.

This is what some Patriots had to say when the suspension (for deflating game balls in the AFC Championship game) was handed down:

Even many non-Pats players defended Brady:

However, don’t count Darrelle Revis among the batch of supporters.

Here’s what Revis, who signed with the New York Jets this offseason, had to say about it (via the New York Daily News):

"“Everybody’s blowing it [Deflategate] up because it is Tom Brady. I understand that. But if [the NFL] feels he did the crime or he did something and they want to penalize them, then that’s that. [The Patriots] have a history of doing stuff. You can’t hide that … Tom was there when they did that stuff in the past … Stuff repeatedly happened through the years. You got Spygate, you got this and that and everything else.”"

Ladies and gentleman, shots have been fired.

It’s actually somewhat surprising to hear this reaction from Revis. Sure, he’s with the Jets now, but just three months ago he was a Patriot, and that stint earned him a Super Bowl ring. One might think the gratitude would lead him to side with his ex-teammate – or at least, to keep his mouth shut.

But then again, there are no rules in division rivalries, and Revis is now on the other side of this blood feud. After demanding a trade two years ago, Revis is slowly ingratiating himself back with the Jets following his 5-year deal with the team this offseason. And when in doubt, slam New England. It’s his job to hate the Patriots, and he’s off to a pretty good start so far.
