NBA Rumors: Mavericks working on sign-and-trade for DeAndre Jordan?
By Josh Hill
The Dallas Mavericks are considering a trade that would exchange Tyson Chandler for DeAndre Jordan.
The Los Angeles Clippers have an offseason of big decisions ahead of them following their massive collapse in the Western Conference Semifinals. After losing a 3-1 series lead to the Houston Rockets, the Clippers must now decide what happens with the contract of DeAndre Jordan — more specifically, who will be paying him the money on it.
It’s not a foregone conclusion that Jordan will get a max deal from the Clippers, even if they end up offering him one. One scenario that is starting to get kicked around is the idea that a sign-and-trade for DeAndre Jordan could happen, and the Dallas Mavericks are at the forefront of that notion.
According to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com, the Mavericks are seriously considering a sign-and-trade that would offer up Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for DeAndre Jordan this summer.
Of course, trading Jordan for Chandler and Felton seems like the Mavericks are getting the better end of the deal, but the money involved here is a major factor.
Sure, the Clippers are getting Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton in exchange for a promising big man — but they’re also not paying Chandler and Felton anywhere near max dollars. Even combined, the additions of Chandler and Felton won’t come close to the kind of cash the Clippers would have to tie up in Jordan, not to mention they’re both great players who fill needs the Clippers have while allowing for more additions to be made.
It’s a deal that is just being kicked around at the moment, but the idea that DeAndre Jordan could be swapped in a sign-and-trade is something that should be paid attention to moving forward this summer.
