While sports are centered around the action on the field/court, there are also outside factors that bring eyeballs to the television set or bodies into the stadium. They can be wide-ranging, from trendy “theme nights” to concerts and giveaways concocted by a professional marketing department. Still, there is one specific area that is always present, and that is what the team wears on a nightly basis.

The uniforms worn by respective teams contribute to the bottom line in a unique way. This is especially true of the NBA, as the world’s best basketball league also doubles as the most fashion-forward enterprise of all American sports.

Professional basketball is trendy in a variety of ways, but because of the star-driven nature of the sport, an individual look can become iconic. From the legendary green-and-white of the Boston Celtics to the purple-and-gold of the Los Angeles Lakers, there are long-lasting images that implant themselves in the minds of sports fans and casual observers alike.

Every franchise strives to grab that kind of notoriety, and still some simply can’t get it right. For whatever reason logos and uniforms often fall flat, especially for less than successful squads, which makes for one ugly combination.

In this space, we will examine 10 NBA franchises that are in desperate need of new laundry. For clarity, this will be a reference to the team’s default uniforms, excluding “throwbacks” or alternate jersey sets.
