Forward Corey Brewer will reportedly be returning to the Houston Rockets on a three-year deal.

The Houston Rockets are looking to continue to bolster their roster to remain a top team in the Western Conference.

Now, they will have a key member of their bench returning next season. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Rockets and free agent forward Corey Brewer, have come to terms on a three-year contract worth $24 million.

Last season, the Rockets made multiple savvy mid-season moves that ultimately strengthened their team, which lead to a run to the NBA Western Conference Finals. One of those many moves, was acquiring Brewer from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In 56 games with the Rockets, Brewer averaged 11.9 points a game off the bench in 25.1 minutes per game. His contributions to the team didn’t just come via offense, an area where he did struggle from beyond the arc. He was a good perimeter defender and two-way player.

It’s not a move that will push Houston to the next level, but it’s an important move that helps them keep a member of their rotation. Thus far this offseason, the Rockets had a solid draft, where the team picked up Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell. They now have Corey Brewer back, and if he can find his stroke from three again, the Rockets offense should become even more dangerous.

There’s no doubt the Rockets aren’t done in free agency, as the team can match any offer for point guard Patrick Beverly. The Rockets are shaping up to have a deep team again, and a team that has pieces that can be moved in trade packages.

It takes the right mix of players to make a run in the NBA, and a veteran guy like Brewer off the bench is a nice piece for Houston to keep.
