Florida State fans are really mad Everett Golson didn’t play vs. Clemson
By Josh Hill
The Florida State Seminoles lost to Clemson on Saturday, and the knee-jerk reaction from armchair quarterback Noles fans was that Everett Golson should have started.
There is no player more popular on a football team than the backup quarterback — even if that guy used to be the starter. That’s where we were on Saturday, as Florida State quarterback Everett Golson was benched against Clemson in favor of Sean Maguire.
Godson missed the Noles last game with concussion symptoms, but he was cleared for the Clemson game earlier this week. That was an indication to fans that there would be a quarterback change and Golson would take over as the starter in order outlaid the Noles to an upset win.
None of that happened — not the upset and especially not Golson starting.
While Florida State may have lose on Saturday, the real winner was Everett Golson, who FSU fans are convinced was the missing factor in the embarrassing loss to Clemson.
It’s hard to say if the game would have ended any differently if Golson had indeed played, but we live in a world where we will never ever know the answer.
