Doctors are concerned that Lamar Odom may have severe brain damage

The news surrounding Lamar Odom since he was found collapsed in a Nevada brothel on October 13 hasn’t been good. Though he’s out of the coma he had reportedly slipped into, the latest word regarding the former NBA player’s condition paints a disconcerting picture about the present and future for Odom.

According to reports, Odom is currently having trouble recognizing his close friends and his family. Considering that Odom suffered a reported 13 strokes before being discovered in the brothel, not recognizing loved ones isn’t a wholly uncommon thing for stroke victims. However, the doctors who have worked with and run extensive tests on Odom fear that he may have “severe” brain damage.

More than just the lack of recognition of people close to him, Odom is also still struggling with basic motor function. He is still not fully able to walk on his own or fully communicate with doctors, or anyone for that matter.

This is truly tragic to hear about Odom in this condition. Regardless of how you view the events that led to him being in this condition, there’s an undeniable level of sadness in a man who was once one of the most entertaining and even successful NBA players in the league no possibly facing the rest of his life with severe brain damage. Our thoughts are still with Odom and his family as he and they continue through this trying time.
